December 2001

Dear Journal,

Me and Bailey making jump ropes

Cracker Christmas

The weekend of December 1st, Bailey spent the night.  The next day, we went to Ft. Christmas where they were having a "Cracker Christmas".  There was a bunch of pioneer crafts.  Bailey and I made our own jump ropes.

5th Grade Campout

On December 6th, the 5th grade campout was held at Wekeiva Park.  We split up into groups in cabins.  There were 2 chaperons and 5-8 kids in each cabin.  Mom was one of the chaperones in my cabin.  We stayed one night.  We did crafts like making picture frames, painting tiles, and painting t-shirts (the ones we are wearing in the picture).

We played capture the flag and made paper from toilet paper!  We sang songs at the campfire.  There was a person that came and he told us about snakes.  He showed us a few snakes and taught us how to tell the difference between a poisonous snake and a non-poisonous snake.  At the end of his presentation he ate a worm!

Beam 9.2 (4th)
Floor 8.95 (2nd)
all around 34.45 (9th)

Our team placed first in the state!

Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Pop-pop all came to watch.

Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa's

We went to Pennsylvania for Christmas, so we exchanged presents with Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Beth on the 15th.  We also ate dinner at Grandma's.  I got a lot of neat gifts like the leotard I wanted from the state meet.

Aunt Beth, Juan, Trevor, and Alexis

And my parents give me a hard time about eating candy!

Grandpa was very excited when he got a huge chocolate bar.  It had 50 servings!  He also got a package of chocolate covered insects (that were real) from Trevor.

Wildcat of the Week

On Monday, the 17th I was Wildcat of the Week.  Thats where the teacher picks a student for different reasons.  I was picked because I was a good example for the rest of the class.

Assistant Principal for the Day

On the 20th, I was the assistant principal for the day.  Mom and Dad had won it at the 5th grade auction last month.  I got to walk around to see what all the school was doing and I got to see how they laminate stuff and how the computer system with all the kids information on it works.

Christmas in Pennsylvania

After school on the 21st, we drove to Pennsylvania for Christmas with Poppop and Grandma in Poppop's truck.  It took us two days to get there.  We stopped in Savanaha, GA for the night.  The next day we got to Uncle Joe and Aunt Joann's house, which is where we stayed.

Mom, Dad, and me

On Sunday night we went Christmas caroling with Uncle Joe and Aunt Joann's church.

Then next day we went on a memory lane trip to see where mom, grandma, and poppop's houses, relatives houses, and schools were.

The next day was Christmas.  Aunt Joann's daughters, Christina and Lori, and their families came over to exchange gifts and for dinner.

On Wednesday, we went to the Herr's potato chip factory and it was very neat because we got to see how they made pretzels, corn chips, popcorn, tortia chips, and potato chips.

When we were looking at the potato chips being made, the guide got us a plateful of fresh, hot potato chips to sample.  They were good!  At the end of the tour, we got to pick a sample bag of pretzels or corn chips.

Chips anyone?

That night, we went back to the Herr's factory to see the Christmas lights on display.  The next day we visted Grandma and Poppop's friends, Chuck and Margret.  After dinner, we visted Poppop's other brother, Bruce.  The next day we headed back home.  It was mostly in the 20's and low 30's, but we didn't get any snow.
